Patterns:

  1. I feel that within the genre of equine journalism not much is excluded. Perhaps the lack of live televised horse events due to freak accidents that would require like an advisory or warning beforehand (that happens in every sport – football, soccer, baseball hockey), or maybe there is an exclusion in certain articles that could involve maybe more opinion pieces but without the dramatic commenting feud that happens on social media. Content that is usually included in the genre of equine journalism are heartfelt rescue stories, training methods, exercises methods for the rider, fashion trends, ads or informative pieces about new products or equipment, interviews with professional riders and trainers, and I believe a couple more ideas.

Introduce Your Genre

  1. Identify your tentative “underappreciated” genre (or subgenre)

Using lots of words but saying absolutely nothing

  1. What is interesting to you about this genre? Or, why might it be significant or otherwise worth paying attention to?

Saying a lot of words while not saying anything of substance in my opinion is an art form, as seems a lot easier than one might think, using linguistic manipulation and certain words that pop. I would mostly focus on corporate speak and politicians. Possibly people who are in a tough situation like a scandal.

  1. Tentatively, define/describe your corpus (collection of texts/examples)

I will mostly use videos either explain the topic or example of people saying a lot with any substance

  1. Provide links (and/or titles) of five samples.

  1. What content is typically included or excluded? How is the content treated? What sorts of examples are used? What counts as evidence (personal testimony, facts, etc.)?

There is usually a specific subject included, such as a direct address of the message (i.e. you can do anything; show them what you got) followed by a supportive saying. Names are usually excluded, and oftentimes if there is a well-known quote used the piece will omit a citation as well to credit the author of the quote; this also occurs if the quote is an original, which could create some confusion. However, if there is a biblical quote there is often a citation at the end, or some little denotation “from God” at the lower corner of the message. [...]

When talking about the designer clothes of our time, anyone writing on it, or supporting is pretty straight forward and to the point. Due to the fact that anyone who is associating with them is likely already aware of what they’re getting themselves. They include the prices and descriptions of majority of heir items, if not, showing and describing the make up of some of these products. When speaking to their audience, they tend to speak or appeal to Logos and Ethos. I do not say Pathos for a reason, due to the fact that when speaking or selling these items its a pretty straight forward exchange, no emotion.

Opposed to many other genres, this one doesn’t require as much word play. [...]

  • Sometimes in the commercials/ads facts, photos and personal testimonies are included. For example photos included will be “before & after” photos, of before the person tried the skin product and how their skin looks after they have tried the product. They say the photos used are not actors and are from real consumers of the product. Honestly, who knows if that’s true. Anything is possible with photoshop.
  • People also will share their “skin story” of using the product and how it changed their life.
