Jcole rap music into gospel music

I listen to a lot of Jcole’s music, and the reoccurring theme that he has presented is the fact that he is trying to speak the language of youth in a positive light.  In a church there are similar attributes, when a pastor is trying to speak to his troubled youth followers about what is right and wrong, and why they shouldn’t act impudently.

Headphone products into fashion statements.

Are the Beats headphones that I have any better, then a corded version of another brand of headphones?  Or is the airpods that everyone that is “important” has, but continues to lose more than just helping me have a better listening experience?  Something as simple as a headphone has now become more about being a fashion statement, than it is to actually use them.  Taking the product of a headphone and commercializing on the brand name, to gain some sort of respect from our peers is a reoccurring theme that is dehumanizing everyone, just through another facet.

“Dark Spaghetti”

Spaghetti Westerns are an interesting sub genre because they provide a window into what the genre would be like from the point of view of an Italian producer.  This differs from a American Western, because instead of focusing on the “All American,” “white knight,” we get something real.  When collaborating with the professor I have come to the realization that these producers are somewhat imitating what they think is the most important parts of the genre.  What they believe makes up a spaghetti western.  I will be exploring why these Italian producers have chosen to emphasize a new approach to the role of the protagonist, and how this actually resembles a closer view to how the western expansion actually was.  I will also show why these producers choose to present these undefined character roles as they do, not only with humor to bring a more family orientated feel, however providing something more gritty and real.  For example, in the recent Spaghetti Western, Django Unchained, we are provided a very raunchy real experience. The protagonist is turns into a character that we more or less want to be the protagonist instead of someone declaring he is.   In some regards to the Western movies as a whole, I have found that these producers are providing a way for a culture to be able to relate to the movies, but yet subtly poking fun at how the American culture likes to dramatize the origins of our country, by providing a more realistic view of the time period.  Instead of heroes and villains being so clear cut, the hero is always winning and making the Western times seem so daring and adventurous, these producers provide a different view.  This leads me to question, what was more accurate to the actual Western Expansion?  How are these producers subtly making fun of an entire country, and yet still providing a more accurate version of what the Western times were like?  Are these producers the real reason why anyone has a more accurate view of the Western Expansion, compared to the skewed view from traditional Western movies?

Subject

Goofy or kind of ironic western banter

Point of significance

Is this the producer poking fun at the western culture as a whole?

Subject

Unclear character roles, leading to find out who the protagonist is.

Point of significance

Possibly trying to bring a different style of film to the west, and trying to destroy the normal “western” paradigm

Changing Westerns to make the style unlike the normal patterns of  this cultural category of film.

By not showing a clear-cut version of a western, and providing comic scenes, are these Italian producers subtly  making fun of Western Culture?

Spaghetti Westerns are a sub- genre of Westerns, that Italian producers have made.  Predicting a story that is not the typical format of westerns, Spaghetti westerns provide blurred character roles, irony/corny scenes.   The laughable nature in some of the movies that are more corny than anything leads to an interesting question.  Was the intention of these Italian producers to poke fun at America, and show how uncreative westerns were?  This possible intention mixed with how the protagonist is portrayed in the films, creates a different view of what this sub- genre really meant.

Identify and Describe Patterns in the Genre’s Features

  1. What content is typically included or excluded? How is the content treated? What sorts of examples are used? What counts as evidence (personal testimony, facts, etc.)?

The content that is typically included would be cowboys and bad guys, deception, and heroism. Examples can be seen from the many spaghetti westerns that are available.

  1. What rhetorical appeals are used? What appeals to logos, pathos, and ethos appear?

The rhetorical appeals that are used can be seen as more pathos than anything, playing on the emotions of the viewers of the movie. Getting the audience to be invested with this outlaw like character, who is constantly in danger.

  1. How are texts in the genres structured? What are their parts, and how are they organized?

The texts are structured by a formal movie plot style. A beginning, opening of the movie, problem, solution, climax, and finale.

  1. In what format are texts of this genre presented? What layout or appearance is common? How long/big is a typical text in this genre?

If we were to analyze the text throughout the movie, we can see that there are some dramatic big/ long texts that help hype up the movie. Creating drama, through the use of different fonts when there is a new city that the protagonist goes into.

  1. What types of “sentences” do texts in the genre typically use? How long are they? Are they simple or complex, passive or active? Are the sentences varied? Do they share a certain style?

The sentences that are used are not that long, however this genre in a movie setting, really takes more of a imagery approach.   The words that the protagonist would say, or the villain, is usually not too long of a sentence. Usually there is more action than script in any sort of western movie.

  1. What diction is most common? What types of words (or symbols, images, etc.) are most frequent? Is a type of jargon used? Is slang used? How would you describe a typical writer’s tone?

The diction that is used can be seen through symbols and images. The most common would be cowboy hats, warrants, pistols, and speak-easy settings. Calling each other names to get them to have a duel with you is also common diction throughout the movies.

Analyze What These Patterns Reveal About the Situation and Scene

  1. What do these patterns reveal about the genre, its situation, and the people who use it?

These patterns reveal more of a subculture of people that are invested in creating a situation where there isn’t a clear line as to who is the good guy and who is the bad guy. In most Western movies there are clear character roles, and spaghetti westerns give the availability to see the other side.

  • What do participants have to know or believe to understand or appreciate the genre?

Really the participants don’t have to know anything to understand the genre, however to appreciate the genre you have to somewhat be into the Western genre. If you aren’t into the western genre, then the watcher would probably get bored very quickly.

  • Who is invited into the genre, and who is excluded??

People that are into Westerns are more targeted to like this genre, however there really isn’t a group that is excluded. I started watching spaghetti westerns when I was around ten years old.

  • What roles for writers and readers does it encourage or discourage?

The roles that the writer provides for the reader encourages them to see a unique view of how westerns should be. It shows how lawless this time could have been, and nothing is very clear- cut.

  1. What can you learn about the actions being performed through the genre by observing its language patterns?

By studying the language patterns that are used throughout spaghetti westerns, the viewer can more or less get a sense of why the author has created such a subgenre.

  • How is the subject of the genre treated? What content is considered most important? What content (topics or details) is ignored?

The content that I feel is most important would be that of the danger and deceit that these characters go through in order to obtain their certain goal throughout the movie.

  • What values, beliefs, goals, and assumptions are revealed through the genre’s patterns?

The goal of the author would more or less be to show this other side of western culture. Not everything is seen as a hero’s story, but provides a healthy perspective from a Italian producer. Through the patterns that are evident in the genre, and what ideas are pushed we are able to see that there is clearly another view of how westerns should be produced.

  • What actions does the genre enable? What actions does the genre constrain??

The actions that the genre enables are changing the minds of some western enthusiasts, and providing a fresh perspective. There isn’t much constraint at all, since the authors don’t really control if people watch their movies.

SPAGHETTI WESTERN

I love this sub genre because, not a lot of people really like this sub genre. I had an unappreciated sense of what happened in western times, and usual has a very interesting story. The rural, survivalist, nature of a cowboy that chases down a villain somehow, is fascinating to me. The irony that follows in most spaghetti western shows gives a really good story. In most spaghetti westerns the protagonist tries and become friends with the villain of the town, before he saves the entire town.

Some examples could be seen as the dollars trilogy, which was a series of three movies that starred Clint Eastwood.
