  1. What contentis typically included or excluded? How is the content treated? What sorts of examples are used? What counts as evidence (personal testimony, facts, etc.)?
  • Typically, the content included is anything from a crazy story, to a holy grail product, to an entertainment piece. However, all of these contents will usually share a common theme which is over exaggeration. Click bait exaggerates or completely goes away from the topic in order to draw the audience in

Evidence in this genre is lacking. The rhetoric behind these ads is based exclusively on the ethos and pathos in the next question. So, the closes thing to evidence is the promise of the appealed lifestyle by the commercial’s protagonist, as they are indeed riding horses and laying on the beach and so can you. All the content is cinematic shots, vague plot progression, hushed voiceovers, and the product reveal at the end of the commercial.

Some labels even just simply have an enlarged exaggerated photo of the food simply writing the name of the product which sometime is creative like fruit loops for example, and then the label for the can of corn will just say corn. IDENTIFY PATTERNS:

  1. Inclusion/Exclusion: In this particular genre, content is usually loosely defined. It has to be a piece of paper or plastic with words on it. Sizing down the genre to children’s cards reveals the common pattern of using bright or pleasing colors, and the words written inside are in reference to the reader (i.e. “you, we, us”). Moving further, within the genre of birthday cards for children, there must be mention of the occasion. The inside of the card does not require anything but words, but often the outside contains a cartoon or a graphic. Cards that are typically singled-out are those that use stickers, included prizes, pop-up book technology (no idea how to describe that, sorry), audio recordings or music.

  1. What content is typically included or excluded? How is the content treated? What sorts of examples are used? What counts as evidence (personal testimony, facts, etc.)?

The content included is usually things that happen in life, like going through something bad, making mistakes and even positive things like tomorrow is a new day, God is looking out for you and such. Examples are like breakups, bad days, metaphors, analogies. The types of quotes I am analyzing don’t include common sayings and quotes by famous people. It is mostly just regular inspirational quotes by random people that is part of the content. This content doesn’t require evidence really. [...]

The content typically included a phrase that compares an object to a situation or person. It can have animal references, food references or sexual references. The content is treated as a common way of talking to local people in the southern community. The evidence is the sayings used that are pasted down from generation to generation.
