A.)

  • Subject: Advertisement for “magic” weight loss pill
    • POS: Makes people believe this pill will really make them lose a bunch of weight; false claims; over promises, under delivers
  • Subject: Over dramatic and over exciting video titles (“Click to see a man hug a wild lion!”)… the man never hugs a wild lion.
    • POS: Over excites viewers; again over promises, and under delivers
  • Subject: Fear induced click bait… “Is your partner cheating on you? Take this short quiz to find out.”
    • POS: Makes people click on these dumb links to take a quiz that has no real significance on if or if not your partner would be cheating on you; also over promises and under delivers by making the reader think this “quiz” will tell them if their partner is faithful, when it really just generates a yes or no random response.

A.

1. Subject: There’s no prerequisite for an inspirational quote besides being short and displayed on some type of background

POS: This means the content doesn’t have to have real substantial value it just needs to be relatable.

2. Subject: Posters’ intentions for posting are not known (popularity vs. trying to help others)

POS: Although the purpose is unknown the quotes still have an effect.

3. Subject: Readers’ intentions for reading the quotes are unknown (motivation vs. cynical)

POS: Depending on their intention and attitude towards the quotes, the effect changes.

4. Subject:The quotes are mostly in 2nd person (ex: “you may feel alone…” and “your life…”)

POS: This shows the poster is trying to build a connection with the reader and regardless of poster’s purpose, he/she knows they must do so in order to be successful. [...]

Spaghetti Westerns are a sub- genre of Westerns, that Italian producers have made.  Predicting a story that is not the typical format of westerns, Spaghetti westerns provide blurred character roles, irony/corny scenes.   The laughable nature in some of the movies that are more corny than anything leads to an interesting question.  Was the intention of these Italian producers to poke fun at America, and show how uncreative westerns were?  This possible intention mixed with how the protagonist is portrayed in the films, creates a different view of what this sub- genre really meant. Seen on Youtube, expensive home tours are videos that follow real estate agents around mansions costing over $5 million dollars, while they comment on the intricacy of the house’s design and its luxury details. Expensive homes are usually located in the mos well-known areas, such as Hollywood Hills, California, Miami, Florida, Dallas, Texas, and even international places such as Dubai, Milan, and Athens. Listened to on many streaming services, the Evolution of His-Hop/Rap has changed the way music is being heard with the perception of drugs, guns, and women throughout their songs. For example, In the early ’90s, rappers such as Tupac would rap about drugs, guns, and how many women they had while sending a message in the process. While rappers and hip-hop artist today use drugs, guns, and women to flaunt or prove themselves to others. [...]

In Children’s Educational environments, Nursery Rhymes are collections of entry level stories that introduce children how to read that derive from the darkest moments of human history.  Unlike normal stories that have a direct plot/theme these stories are introduced to children as cute rhymes with themes that are supposed to teach children morals. However, a majority of these stories are inspired by the darkest times in our human history. The attempt to whitewash the dark ties to these rhymes by applying educational values to them sprouts an ironic image of parents trying to keep their children safe while introducing them to the worst of human history. On video-platform websiteskids’ toy unboxings are videos watched by parents and children to distinguish the nature and importance of kid-oriented products.

I just wanted to provide some real examples of these unboxing videos just to show the popularity and existing culture present in different forums such as the comment sections and the discussions that are present. Whether it’s a Walmart unboxing or a $400 toy car, these products matter to someone past wanting to experience things outside of their perspective. It is not only children who are a part of this culture, but adults who revel in these experiences of childhood that normally wouldn’t be afforded to them when following societal conventions at 25+. In home decor, inspirational artwork is a type of contextual paraphernalia used to depict the owner’s values, goals or beliefs. The allure of this product lies in the collection as much as the sayings themselves, regardless of whether or not they express similar ideas. Some pieces are directly biblical and denote passages deemed important to certain ways of living, while others may remain fairly paganistic in ideals. The forms of these pieces range from hung wall art to embroidered pillows, to placemats or welcome mats as well. [...]

In many online videos, online advertisements, and commercials, the term clickbait is something that draws the consumer (reader) in and grabs their attention, getting them to click on or view the product. Clickbait over-promises and under-delivers to the consumer in that the clickbait itself is usually over dramatized.  Clickbait is different from any other normal advertisement title in the way that it provides and excessively dramatic or interesting title in order to gain more views/clicks. Normal titles for ads or videos are truthful and do not over-promise, but in turn gets them less views. Normally, a consumer would see an advertisement, video, commercial, whatever it may be and if it interests them they will view it or click on it. [...]

In literature, magical realism  is a style of fiction that paints a realistic view of the modern world while also adding magical elementsIt is often called fabulism, as it often uses fables, myths and legends. The term is most often used to refer to fiction or literature. One artist of this genre describes it as “what happens when a highly detailed, realistic setting is invaded by something too strange to believe”. This genre stems from Latin American literature and the characters within the genre go through a completely different perspective from what any other person would call “objective”.  [...]
