Found in grocery stores, gas stations, pharmacies, and even our own homes, food packaging labels are seen by billions every day. It is easy not to appreciate the thought that goes into the creation of these food packaging labels since we are so accustomed to coming across them on a daily basis. Food packaging labels have a great influence on the types and brands of food people are purchasing, and thus the food that they eat. Labels are made to draw in consumers. Picking the item up off the shelf is the first step to becoming a successful company. Once the shopper has a hold of the item a quick glance will reveal the contents of the item. Many tactics are used to draw in consumers through creative tactics. Food packaging labels can be made to reach out to particular audiences or made to appeal to the masses.

This paper aims to dig into the tactics used in the creation of a food packaging label. We will look into the psychology of the process that makes them so effective. We will understand the process of the actual creation, design, and content of labels. This paper will show the huge amount of thought that goes into the making from start to finish. This is important to understand as anyone that has been to a store in their life has encountered this very underappreciated genre. With anyone being a potential audience member it is important to know the ways that we are targeted. This can help to ensure that no one is deceived by a label because of its content. It is good to realize the ways that companies are able to target and subconsciously convince us to purchase something we otherwise may not have considered purchasing were it not for the food packaging label.
