Before class time, please give each essay a letter grade assessment in each of the five areas outlined by the Writing Program: 1) argument, 2) evidence, 3) organization, 4) audience, and 5) grammar and format and give each essay an overall grade. (Write down these assessments before class—nothing will be collected, but writing things down will help us have a more productive meeting.) Be prepared to identify each essay’s biggest strength and biggest weakness (a.k.a. area for improvement), as well as the advice you’d give the student for making improvements. |

Due Sunday, 11/13 @ 11:59pm | Sample Papers for Grade Norming
In preparation for grade norming next week, please send four student essays—an A, B, C, and an NP (not passing)—from essays 3 or 4. Please save the papers as YourLastName-A, YourLastName-B, etc., and email them to me by 11:59pm (midnight) on 11/13. Wordprocessing files are preferred (.doc or .docx), but I can also take PDFs and other file formats if necessary.
After I receive all the files, I’ll select a few and email them out to everyone on Sunday. (Don’t worry – I’ll remove your names, student names, and any other identifying information before sending.)
