Understanding the history of pregnant women back in the days, has made me realize how vein and shallow our society has become. Now a days women want to achieve a perfect body right after delivering a baby, disregarding the different side effects this can bring to them. Women follow other celebrities and other women on social media trying to achieve a certain look after giving birth. Instead women should understand that having a baby is a miracle not only because they were able to give life but because they survived the child birth, which can not be said for many women back in the days who gave their lives in order to bring their child in to this world. If person is serious about loosing the baby weight they should consult their doctor first and begin a healthy diet including exercising. Getting a journal to document their activities throughout the day can also help them, this will remind them when they are falling off the wagon and what to do to keep focus to reach their weight goals. Following other people on social media is unhealthy, not only it becomes frustrating when the regular mom can’t lose 30 pounds like certain celebrities or other women, but this can cause the woman to suffer fro anorexia, bulimia and other eating disorders. In the long run this will affect the baby because he/she will not get 100% attention from the mother or no breast milk since the mother needs to eat healthy in order to produce breast milk. Family and friends will also become affected from the obsession of weight loss since the person will eventually withdraw themselves and lock themselves in their own feelings. Family and friends can also help the postpartum mother by eating healthier and encouraging her to stay away from social media and to focus more on her new born.
We can go as far back to the 19th and 20th century when women were not as privileged to have all the medical and technological advances that we have today, in order to avoid complications during and after child birth. During this research for this journal I have to admit that I was shocked to learn about all the risks women endured back in the days in order to have a child. Lets begin by mentioning that many women suffered for what is known “child bed fever” this consisted of women suddenly getting uncontrollable high fevers after giving birth and possibly dying due to the lack of antibiotics. Other infections such as the uterine infection which could easily spread through the entire body, and the incomplete expulsion of the placenta were all risks that women were more susceptible of encountering if they had a baby. Lets also remember vaginal trauma, tears and episiotomy the surgical cut in the muscular area between the vagina and the anus to enlarge the opening was a frequent procedure back in the day. Prolapse(Organs begin to fall out of place) and fistulas (a hole that develops in the tissue separating the rectum from the vagina, or, more commonly, the bladder from the vagina), were also common issues women faced when having a baby. And than we have C-sections, which are popular now a days but were very scary in the past because they were usually done on dead mothers not to save the mom but as a last resort to save the baby. With the advance in medicine more interesting facts and knowledge have arise in order to save the mother and the child when a C-section is done. Doctors understand the importance of sterilization antibiotics and the most important procedure which is to stitch up the uterus after the the C-section something that doctors did not know back in the days. The women who suffered the most of post-partum trauma were physically and emotionally were slaves, the working poor, and the illiterate; in other words, the backbones of society. The history of what women went through in the past has been ignored in the 21st century, now a days women do not embrace their scared bodies or their imperfect bodies after having a child because many are too worried about what other women are doing in order to get rid of the baby bump or baby weight. Nor realizing that giving birth is a lot more than following celebrities on social media or trying to fit back in name brand clothes.
Establishing more programs where people can learn how to love themselves and not care about what others think can be a perfect way to help the community fight against the media and self image. Being realistic and excepting yourself and understanding that true friends will not judge or criticize the way the person looks, can also help them. Groups who volunteer and go to schools and talk to teenagers about the consequences of becoming trap in the media life style can help teenagers fight against peer pressure. Utilizing social media itself to advertise and fight back against bulling and tips on how to overcome bad influences and negative comments can be a great idea to let women in general know that they are not alone and that there are other people who care and understand the situation. The same idea would work for women who just had a baby but decide to follow Kim Kardashian and other celebrities. Women who just had a baby should start a website to encourage each other. They should also voice their opinion on social media about how they feel as far as celebrities lying to the public when for the most part they are getting plastic surgeries and starving in order to loose the baby weight so fast after giving birth. Another way to fight against different clothing stores who do not carry big sizes for women after they have a child is publicly telling these designers that they will never purchase their brands and they will tell friends and family about their experiences with these designers. Women in general should advocate for each other and instead of competing against each other they should become a strong group to fight against the negative affects that social media brings in their lives.
The media has become one of society’s biggest way to show off a person’s body, clothing and social status. It is important to note that my topic is about how the media affects pregnant women after giving birth, but i think that it is very important to understand that the media is affecting how people in general feel about their bodies and looks around the world. Teenagers for example, are one of the biggest victims of social media because they have to look a certain way in order to be excepted by their friends. Kids have confessed that they are not happy with their image and so they will alter their selfies in order to get the most likes. for the most part these kids are a shame and unhappy even if there is nothing wrong with them. Some will go to the extreme to stop eating because they have created in their minds that they are fat when in fact they are not. Others would purchase expensive clothing, shoes and accessories and would alter the photos to exaggerate their looks to the images they believe people will accept. Researchers and professionals are very concern about the impact that social media has among people in general. Campaigns like “Be real: Body confidence for everyone” wants to reiterate the importance for teenagers to love themselves and understand that social media is not the way to build their confidence and self esteem. Instead Social media can create other emotional and even mental issues which can lead to other issues if not taken care of in time. One of the best ways to fight against on line bulling and others negative views is by surrounding themselves with positive people and narrowing down the amount of people or social media apps a person has.

The media has the power to manipulate a woman’s mind after having a baby about how they should look and the body that is acceptable to the world. The best way to fight against the pressure of Facebook and Instagram would be by staying away from it. Not having any social media accounts can help a woman after giving birth by taking a step back to learn and except her new body. It can also help a new mom gather her thoughts and worry about more important things than her weight.
A new mom’s first priority should be to care and nurture her new born, to get to know her baby to love him and cherish the moment of becoming a mother. Once the mom has excepted that she is responsible for another human being and she understands that now life is not only about herself, she can move forward to other things such as focusing about her appearance and her weight. After a woman gives birth the body is still going through different emotion and many changes. it is very important for the mom to take some time to think about her priorities and not about how Kim Kardashian lost 30 pounds in 4 weeks after having baby North West.
Women should ask their doctors about healthy eating and exercises during their pregnancy. Many women think that pregnancy is their excuse or their free pass to over eating and gain weight since they have always been on a diet before they got pregnant. If women educate themselves about how to maintain a certain weight during their pregnancy they wouldn’t have to stress so much about their weight gain after they give birth. Exercising during pregnancy should also be part of a woman’s schedule as long as its approved by her doctor. Walking, light cardio, meditation or yoga are some of the exercises that pregnant women can benefit from.
If the person has tried everything like diet pills, exercise and eating healthier and these methods have not work there is nothing wrong with seeking the help of a dietitian or plastic surgery in order to help them speed up the process. If a woman agrees that she has taken her weight issues to the extreme, she should also consider seeking professional help from a psychologist or group therapy might also help.
Avoiding social media and understanding that TV commercials and magazines are all a business, can definitely help a woman understand that she does not have to compete with other people or idolize celebrities because of how they look. Excepting her body and the fact that she has carried another person for 9 months should be enough for her to feel proud of herself. Having a plan focusing on that goal and putting a 100% into her goal can help any new mom reach her weight loss goals and regain her confidence. If a woman sits at home all day and eats everything in her fridge and does not make the effort to make a workout schedule, eat six times a day in smaller portions and drink a lot of water, and instead she sits at home looking through Facebook or Instagram, this is only going to add more pressure and because of her frustration she might never lose the weight.
Many women do not feel beautiful after they give birth because of how their body has changed. After having a baby they might have stretch marks all over their body, cellulite and muffing tops and some women might think that the problem is their physical appearance but in reality their problems might go deeper than just the superficial and they might need other things in their lives in order to fill the void. The key is to look deep inside of their soul and find out what the real issue is.
A woman’s body goes through a lot of changes throughout the years, weight gain after pregnancy for instance can be one of the most difficult challenges for a woman to overcome. Women are constantly reminded and pressured through the media that being overweight is not fashionable and is not accepted in our society. Following celebrities such as kim Kardashian, Jenniffer Lopez, Penelope Cruz, Heidi Klum, Beyonce and many other Hollywood stars, who have a baby and weeks after are back to a size 2 0r 4, has created idealistic ideas in regular women who think that they should look just like their celebrity after having a child. The problem is that many women fail to realize that these celebrities have money to pay for plastic surgeries after having a child and receive the help that regular moms do not have. Celebrities have a 24 hr baby sitter who helps with the kids, they have house keeping, a cook and personal trainer to help them achieve the glamorous image they need in order to get back to work. Unfortunately, working class women can not afford all these luxuries, instead they fantasize with becoming skinny right after giving birth only to find themselves overly stressed out, upset, disappointed and obsessed with their weight gain. Women will try every diet on the planet, buy all kinds of diet pills and excessively work out to no avail.
In the fashion industry it is clearly known that beauty comes in small sizes. The constant reminder that women need to have a small waist in order to fit the pretty clothes makes a lot of new moms even more frustrated when they want to shop for certain outfits but because they know they will not look like the models in the magazines or the models on TV, they end up buying extra bigger clothes making them look out fashioned and out dated. Moms realize that their weight is even a bigger problem when they go to certain department stores and they can not find their size or the same styles as the one the mannequins are displaying at the window.
Facebook and Instagram for example; are one of the biggest ways a new mom can feel hopeless when it comes to their weight after having a child. Many new mothers become other females followers in social media because of how they look and because of the way they dress. The problem is that some of the people they are following sometimes have plastic surgeries or other surgeries like the gastric bypass in order to achieve their physique.
New mothers go through many different changes when they are pregnant, not only physically but also mentally and emotionally. Many feel like worrying so much about their weight and their looks just makes it harder to shed the extra pounds. The problem is that there is no way out from the constant reminder and the pressure from social media that women have to look like celebrities in order to be considered sexy and beautiful.

Women would go to bizarre extremes in order to lose weight. This is the case with many women in china who are introducing parasites into their bodies in order to lose weight before they go on job interviews. This image show how disgusting and uncomfortable would it be having theses creatures in side of a person’s body. These parasites will consume most of the food a person eat and it will continue to grow up to 30 feet in length. Not to mention the different types of diseases these worms can spread in someone’s body. In different situations tapeworms can reach different parts of the body such as: the brain, the intestines, and any other parts that the worm can hatch their eggs to keep reproducing. There are many cases reported in which women will use other methods to reach their weight goals such as, eating their placenta, anorexia, bulimia, using enemas and laxatives, restricting calories or obsessed with exercising, But swallowing an animal which most of us try to keep out of our lives is just insane.
The thought of just imagining how big this parasite can grown in someone’s body is repulsive and nauseating. This worm will reach someone’s body as an egg and than it will continue to expand similar to the toys that kids put in water over night and by the morning they are blown up and look like the real animal. It is just gross! The man that is holding the tapeworms looks like he is in disbelieve that people are really ingesting these animals in order to lose weight. The seriousness of this matter and the importance of awareness can also be seen in his face. He reflects that the public needs to understand that they can have these worms in their body and not even know about it, and this is why it is important to learn about them in order to avoid consuming them unknowingly and if people are trying to purposely use this as a diet method to get well informed of the consequences of introducing this parasite in their body. Understanding the reproduction of these parasites is also very important, depending on how many female parasites a person digests, these animals can reproduce millions of eggs in a person’s body this will make the process of getting rid of the parasite much difficult.
Last but not least, although a person might experience some weight loss from consuming these creatures the results will not make such a great difference in a person’s size, since they can only reach the growth already mentioned. A person will jeopardize their heath in order to achieve a quick fix but at the same time forgetting that these creatures will survive in their bodies of the minerals and vitamin once the person stops eating. At the end, the person will become malnourished achieving not a glamorous look but instead they will look like a zombie, defeating the purpose of why the person wanted to lose the weight in the first place.

My main Topic was going to be about how gays are treated in the military. After extensively looking for information on the internet for this topic, the information seem to be very limited. Now I am thinking about changing my topic to: Eating Disorders in Women after 25-30 yrs old. I was able to find a lot of information on this topic. while searching I came across the Bulimia.com website on this website they explain that in order to treat the actual eating disorder, in many cases there are other issues such as, depression or mental health issues that will need to be treated first. They offer these women help through a rehabilitation program which ranges from 30 to 90 days, the person can get treated for their eating disorder and any other needs they might have. Other sites explained that eating disorders begin from an early age. Most of these women begin comparing themselves with models and celebrities from a younger age and this creates a big dissatisfaction with their image. It is believed that most eating disorders begin from the age of 13 up to 19 but since they are unhappy with their appearance it will continue through adulthood. The reason why I think this will be a great topic is because many of us think that Bulimia or anorexia only exists among teenage girls. But Eating disorders do not have an age and there is a great percentage of older women who suffer from this disease. As women age their self esteem and physical appearance diminishes, and the pressure from society that women have to look a certain way causes many grown women to become stressed and worried about how they look. The fear of not being able to physically keep up with the younger crowd becomes an obsession, in many cases these women will starve themselves to death. Other reasons why women will develop an eating disorder after 30, 40 and 50 years of age, can be due to a bad break up, a death in the family, children moving out, unemployment or any stressful situation can also trigger eating disorders. Eating disorders not only affect women in a physical and mental manner. This disease can take over a person’s life and affect them at work, school, with family and friends and overall it can destroy a person’s social life. Eating disorders are very traumatic for the person who is going through it, but at the same time in severe cases of anorexia or bulimia family members suffer twice as much because they can only stand by and watch as their daughter slowly disintegrates until she take her last breath and die, this disease affects everyone who is around the person.

Eating disorders and associated psychiatric comorbidity in elderly Canadian women.Gadalla, T.M. Arch Womens Ment Health (2008) 11: 357. doi:10.1007/s00737-008-0031-8.
First and foremost, I have to say that I truly suck at writing. It is definitely not my strongest subject and at this point I am not very sure about how I will do in this class, but I will still try my best. While reading the article; The Importance of Getting Curious, I felt somewhat motivated to actually use the tips that were given in order to figure out what I am interested in writing about.
After following some of the tips that were offered in the reading. I decided to dig in my past, and I figured that I should write about something meaningful to me but I also want to write about an issue that affects an entire community. I joined the navy in 2008 and I was honorably discharged in 2013. I had some good experiences and others not so great, but I was able to manage to complete my time. Although I am not gay, one of the issues that interest me to learn more about would be, the way gays, transgenders, homosexuals and lesbians are treated in the military, the humiliations the physical and mental abuse they go through. Some questions that I would like to answer would be: what is the government doing about adding new laws for the LGBT community in the military? will there be any laws protecting anyone who decides to come out of the closet? can gay couples get married and add their partner to their health insurance, life insurance and housing allowance?.
The main thing that I would like to accomplish with this paper is to get a better understanding about what is the government’s role and what legal rights will be added to the rules and regulations in the military, in order to reduce the unfair treatment gays receive while in the service. I would also like to know the reason why it is so difficult to fix this issue. I believe that the same way that disabled people have rights and are protected by the American With Disability Act, the LGBT community should also have written laws to defend and protect their rights.
Reid explains that one of the bests ways to become a better writer is by blogging. I would have to say that he might be right, the only problem I see with blogging is the amount of time that has to be dedicated to each topic and as a single mom and a student I do not have extra time to dedicate to blogging. I do want to become a better writer and I think I need to start by writing about simple things, for example: what I did throughout my day, or my emotions or things like: planning activities with my kids. I believe this could be a great start for me to practice my writing skills.
