The Superman Homepage
This website, which was started in 1994 by Steve Younis, has grown to be the biggest and most reliable Superman fan site in the world. The site has since been used by DC Comics as a reference site, and as a place for fans to congregate. Additionally, op-ed essays about the character are able to be submitted for review and eventual posting.
The Superman Podcast Network
This is a network of fan-made podcasts dedicated to Superman and his supporting cast of characters. The SPN was started by a guy who grew up reading comics in the 80s and decided to turn on a microphone and talk about comic books. The Superman Podcast Network has been responsible for the creation of numerous Superman-related podcasts.
Superman: The Movie
This movie was released in 1978 because Superman was DC’s biggest seller. The film has since been deemed one of the most important super hero movies ever made. The special effects team made Superman believably fly on screen. Additionally, the film proved to be the first example of a super hero film that took the source material seriously. Without this film, super hero films would not be the way that they are today.
I love Superman movies and this the first time that I have heard there is podcast network for Superman. To be honest I just learn about podcast the other day. Anyway, I need to check out the homepage fan and learn more about it because it seems like it is a popular site. I have watched the movie but I don’t know when it was release, though. And I agree what you said that because of Superman movies that there are amazing other heroes films. Thanks for sharing
I think your topic is definitely an exciting one. It is apparent that you know how to research this area in a way that is moving with current times. I never knew that their was an outside website dedicated to Superman for all his fans to have a common place to discuss. I think the Superman podcast serves as a great example to share, especially for this class. Learning and studying the type of language used by comic book fans is directly correlated to some of the key ideas about language in this class. Keep up the good work.
I am not a fan of any “superheros” but I do have friends that are big fans of Batman. Looking at your Superman oriented cultural artifacts, I’m wondering if there are actually any artifacts in a league of their own that are dedicated to Superman. What I’m trying to say is, I’m sure there are Batman webpages and undoubtedly Batman podcasts, and we all know that there are Batman movies, but is there anything Superman has that Batman doesn’t in terms of cultural artifacts? I know you mentioned that the 1978 Superman movie changed Superhero movies and made them what they are today, and I’m wondering, have any Batman movies had a similar impact, and if so, do the details of the impact of other superhero movies differ significantly from Superman’s?
